Sean’s Visionzero Success
Sean Wilkerson successfully passed his IAM Roadsmart Advanced Riders Test and became our first successful candidate of the new Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority (CPCA) Visionzero supported training initiative.
Visionzero Support for PECAM’s IAM Roadsmart Training Programme
Visionzero is a broad and developing programme of initiatives that aims to dramatically reduce the number of casualties on Cambridgeshire’s roads. PECAM applied for funding to put towards new Associates’ IAM Roadsmart application fees, reducing it from £149 down to £75. PECAM successfully made the case that advanced training for motorcyclists can help to save lives and also pointed out that motorcyclists are the most vulnerable road users.
Sean’s successful journey
Sean passed his test after 8 one-to-one observed rides with his dedicated Observer, and a mid-programme check ride with one of our National Observers. Sean started riding 40 years ago at the tender age of 16. Even with all of that experience the Tiger 800 rider says that he has found he is now riding ‘quicker, without speeding’ and seeing much more as he is riding, which enables him to plan the most effective and efficient route through the hazards he finds on his route. Sean rides out with his wife, and she has said that he is a much better rider following his training.
