This Sunday’s ride out was Nigel Arkle’s first lead ride following on from his Ride Leader training by Martin Jones.

Originally Nigel had planned a ride to Seasons Café at Billing Garden Centre, but due to the expected high temperatures the plan changed, with a shorter route of 50 miles ending at Holly Lodge Café, with a 17 mile return route to Wansford for the finish.

Even with the promise of warmer temperatures eleven bikes and one pillion arrived at Haddon Services for the ride briefing, Craig McLean volunteered to be TEC.

The ride started off on some familiar roads out through Elton and Fotheringhay, taking in the Benefield Bends.

We then found ourselves on roads that I have not ridden before, some lovely country roads through Slipton, Ringstead out to Kimbolton, before making our way to our destination stop of Holly Lodge Café, near Hamerton.

The Café was a welcome stop with the temperature warming up, refreshments and food (including a very nice Bakewell Slice!) was consumed.

The second half of the ride was a short one to Wansford, but still as enjoyable, some of the group stopped off for further refreshments, whilst some made their own way home.

Thank you to Craig for his tail end duties. A very enjoyable ride out, Nigel did an excellent job in planning, organising, and leading his first ride, hopefully you will be planning another one soon.
