Bank Holiday Sunday saw PECAM doing something a little different — splitting the team and attending two events at the same time.
In Peterborough city centre, we were back at the regular motorcycle meet at the Volunteer Fire Station. These gatherings usually attract amazing attendances, but this one was quieter than normal, but there were still plenty of conversations to keep the PECAM team occupied. As always, the Fire Brigade volunteers provided a warm welcome, along with their very generously supplied food and refreshments.
Meanwhile, another PECAM team was breaking new ground with our first-ever appearance at the Stamford Car Show.
And what an introduction it was. More than 500 cars, a sprinkling of classic motorcycles and over 10,000 visitors made for a very busy Bank Holiday event. Better still, despite the threatening British weather, the rain decided to stay away.
Our gazebo enjoyed a steady stream of visitors throughout the day, with plenty of conversations about advanced riding, developing motorcycle skills and what PECAM has to offer. We were honoured to receive the Mayoress of Stamford, who in all good fun posed for a photograph on a 186mph sports bike.
It was particularly good to see some familiar faces — including people we had previously met at other events and riders from Cambridgeshire Police BikeSafe courses, where PECAM provides the slow-speed riding skills sessions. To top off a great day Martin Mooney won the Classic Bike category with his excellent Moto Guzzi – well done Martin!
Two events, two PECAM teams and plenty of conversations about better riding, and a trophy. Not a bad way to spend a Bank Holiday Sunday.
