Sunday 23rd may saw the second social group ride of the month with twelve enthusiastic motorcyclists and one very welcome pillion passenger. PECAM likes to offer a short ride option, finishing fairly close to Peterborough by mid morning, as well as the more usual 100-120 mile ride getting back about lunch time or just after. This Sunday we combined both rides into one.

We met as usual at Haddon Services, ready for a briefing and to set off about 9:30am. As the group was larger than expected we used the 2nd man drop off system to ensure we all followed the same route. The first half of the ride, which formed the shorter ride option, took in the fantastic roads to the north of Peterborough. We ventured into Rutland, skirting Rutland Water, and on to Lincolnshire, before venturing back towards home base and stopping at Wansford.

We stopped for a coffee and bacon roll at The County Lounge cafe. The food was excellent, although as they were just getting used to being open again had underestimated how much cake they should have bought in, and they ran out. After the break, a couple of riders went on their way home leaving the rest of us to get on with the second half of the ride.

The second half of the route took us south to Huntingdon. We went on the brilliant A427 from Weldon to Oundle, then out via Clopton to Alconbury, Abbots Ripton, Huntingdon (for a quick splash and dash fuel stop for those that needed it) and then back to Peterborough via the Raveleys, Sawtry and the infamous Bullock Road. This made a total ride length of about 120 miles, made up of ‘grin generating’ flowing twisty roads, most of which were in good condition. The weather stayed largely dry, with us just catching the edge of a localised shower.

PECAM offers members two official group rides per month, on the 2nd and 4th Sunday each month throughout the year. During the summer we also have an evening social ride on the 3rd Tuesday of the month. there are also numerous ad hoc rides and tours that members can join.
