The first of the regular twice per month social group rides this September was to an old favourite in the village of Medbourne. Medbourne nestles in the Leciestershire countryside, fed by excellent roads from all directions. The cafe is in the heart of the village and sits behind the Nevill Arms pub and restaurant.

Nine motorcycles, one with a pillion passenger, met in the usual place at Peterborough Services on the A1/A605 junction. After a few minutes welcoming new members, and chatting to people we had not see for a while we had a thorough briefing on the rules of the ride.

The briefing covered that we would be using the intelligent buddy system (https://pecam.org.uk/intelligent-buddy-system/) to keep the riders all going the same direction, and that we would follow the PECAM rides policy (https://pecam.org.uk/ride-policy/) and riding to the IAM Roadsmart Advanced level of riding.

Heading out north on the A1, we quickly turned off and made our way through some excellent roads, many new to the riders, for 50 miles, arriving at the appointed time of 11am. A table had been reserved for us and we set about ordering various delights off the menu. Then the wheels fell off – the Cafe had various operational issues which meant that in the end we had a slice of cake and a coffee before heading back to Peterborough. The cafe management have apologised and compensated us for our lack of food, so we will do a repeat run in October and try again.

The route back was again along excellent roads, another 48 miles of Leicestershire, Rutland and Cambridgeshire before ending up at the Country Lounge in Wansford, we we said good bye.

Great route, great pace, great company, lovely Sunday morning run out – you should join us next time!
