Another first for PECAM, instead of our usual Monthly PECAM Members Slow Speed Skills and Gymkhana Morning, we offered an open event for all non members to attend during the day to practice the slow speed manoeuvres usually only offered to PECAM Members.

The event was held out our usual venue of Westpoint in Peterborough, with the course set up to cover the required competencies in the Advanced Rider Course Handbook.

  • Riding at walking pace, under control – Riding at walking pace, speeding up and slowing down to walking pace
  • Bringing your machine to a controlled stop – left foot down – Bringing your machine to a controlled stop – right foot down
  • Perform a U-turn in the width of the road
  • Pull away with lock applied
  • Complete a single slalom course through cones

An enormous amount of hard work and organisation had gone into the day and it was great to see it was such a success, with a fantastic response from Members of the public who had attended Baston Car Show and see all the Leaflets and Posters promoting the event.

PECAM Members attended to get their Monthly practice in with Bob A demonstrating his skills with the PECAM bike on the Gymkhana Course.

Really Awesome Coffee was in attendance, with delicious coffee and snacks on offer to sustain us during the day, a big thank you to Billy, Mina and Milly for coming along and supporting us on the day.

We were all kept really busy, with so many people attending, offering advice and promoting the benefits of signing up to IAM and joining PECAM, with us being such a friending and social group, why would they not want to join us!

As well as the slow speed skills, on offer were free taster rides to those who were interested in seeing what benefits to their riding could be made by having an Observer following them, offering them tips and advice, with the hope that they would think signing up to the Advanced Rider Course, would improve their riding skills and make them a more thinking rider.

Thanks to Barry Wroe, Steve Staines, Bob Butler and Owen Jarvis, PECAM National Observers who carried out 10 taster rides between them during the day.

There was an excellent attendance, with one IAM Associate coming all the way from Essex to take part, his local IAM group only offer the Slow Speed Skills twice a year, he was very impressed with our set up and wanted to join PECAM so he could attend our Monthly Slow Speed Coaching.

Also in attendance were members of other IAM groups from Leicester and Nottingham who wanted to see what we had to offer, in the hope of getting their own groups to look into offer the essential skills coaching.

Two people attending on the day, joined up on the day, taking advantage of the VisionZero discount on offer, with a further two signing up, a fantastic result!

A huge thank you to everyone who helped out on the day, it was a successful event and hopefully even if not everyone attending signed up, they went away having enjoyed the day and learnt some new skills to help them with their riding.

I would also like to thank Kevin Goodacre Photography for his fabulous photographs, shame I could not use them all, as so many people contributed to the photo’s from the day.
