Saturday 7th August saw the latest Slow Speed session run by PECAM at the runway at Alconbury. This is now a very popular and standard part of our annual curriculum of training for both associates (not yet passed their test) as well as full members. Slow Speed skills diminish without regular practice, and it is an important aspect of advanced riding to keep all of your skills polished. Having access to the runway is a fantastic asset to all members of the group.
The majority of the group met up at Haddon Services at 10am for a short group ride to the runway. This ensures the members of the group can get a chat and a coffee before they set off for the session. One of the instructors then led the group to Alconbury where they met up with everyone else, making 9 people in all.
Special thanks to Treacle, the tenacious Jack Russell for helping lay out the slow speed exercises.
As is usual if anyone finds the exercises especially challenging, then they can get one-to-one coaching, whilst the rest pf the group practice the exercises. This was one aspect of Saturday’s training that worked really well.
The really brilliant aspect of Saturday that the instructors felt makes all the effort so worthwhile was the improvement seen from all of the members of the group as the session progressed. After a couple of hours of controlling their bikes at less than 10mph the group dispersed homeward bound for a well deserved lunch.
