The latest installment of our skills development Saturday morning sessions was held on the 5th November. This has now been a regular feature of PECAMs training for a couple of years. The training takes place on the morning of the first Saturday of each month throughout the year, weather permitting, at the old USAF runway at Alconbury Weald. The training has developed over time to be extremely flexible and to offer participants what they need or want to practice, under expert guidance.
There are 5 slow speed exercises permanently marked out, taking the rider from a straight forward slow ride at walking pace in a straight line through a slalom course, to a tight figure of eight, and a road width ‘U’ turn practice to more developed exercises. In addition there is an established set of more advanced exercises, leading to the practice of motorcycle gymkhana. Gymkhana is far from slow, but does engender exceptional skill development in handling your motorcycle, which will stand you in very good stead in a number of real world situations. In addition to the standard exercises, expertise is on hand to help you develop and practice any bike handling skills you would like to practice in a safe, traffic free, environment.

On this occasion half-a-dozen PECAM associates and members took advantage of the training. Some of them have been regular attendees and have seen their ride handling skills develop beyond their wildest expectations. Bike handling skills fade over a relatively short period of time, and regular practice is essential.
