Members of PECAM Committee work very hard behind the scenes for the Club and Members and we thought it would be good to introduce you to them and give you an insight into who they are and what they do.

This Month I would like to introduce you to Barry Wroe, Policy and Procedure Co-Ordinator.

I started motorbiking as a student to save money, being safety minded, I undertook the old ACU training becoming an instructor. My love of motorcycling continued, riding Kawasaki’s, until I was issued an ultimatum by my wife that it was ether motorbikes or a family (two children and their paraphernalia on a bike doesn’t go) – guess who won.

Having decided to return to motorcycling, the woman who ‘warned me off’ encouraged me back into the saddle insisting that I did a Back to Biking Course.

During this course I met a group of Blood Bikers and after a lengthy discussion decided ‘I want some of that’. Having found that I needed to be an Advanced Rider to become a Blood Biker, I signed up with PECAM; the rest as they say is history.

Completing my Advanced ‘ticket’ in 2015 I became a Blood Biker with SERV S&C; I have completed 400+ tasks. Having been re-ignited by motorcycling, I volunteered to become a Local Observer and was later invited to become a National Observer and member of the Training and Development Team.

After some ‘gentle’ persuasion and to continue my motorcycle journey, I achieved my IAM Masters in November 2022. Fitting PECAM rides in around my other plethora of activities is a challenge but last year I did compete 10k miles on my beautiful RT including a 2.5K mile European trip.

I joined the PECAM Committee as Recruitment Coordinator and now sit as Policy and Procedure Coordinator with the Group. I look after some of the niff naff and trivia pushed our way by IAM e.g. the Annual Audit, updating our constitution and policies (discipline etc.). You can blame me for the Christmas Quiz, that started as a bit of fun during ‘Lock Down’ but is now embedded in our social programme. Through my links with Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue, I have also been able to arrange the very popular Biker Down Courses, they will be back!

I have learnt that in life you get out what you put in.

My Observer journey has been amazing, seeing members develop and pass the Advanced test gives me a great deal of pleasure.

Working with the Committee is rewarding, helping steer the PECAM ship forward to bigger and better things.

Perhaps YOU should consider becoming an Observer or joining YOUR Committee if I can do it anyone can!
