PECAM Chief Observer, Bob Stewart, had been contacted by a local Ladies only Motorcycle Group (Cambs & Peterborough Women Bikers) to ask if PECAM would hold a Ladies only Slow Skills Coaching Event.
With the help of a few of our National Observers, the event was held on Sunday 12th October at our usual coaching spot of West Point in Peterborough.
Martina from the Cambs & Peterborough Women Biker Group promoted the event within the group and with the promise of around 17 ladies attending, it was expected to be a successful event.
What we hadn’t banked on was the thick fog that greeted us as we opened our curtains!
Heading out to West Point to meet the other PECAM Members, we set up the cones, ready for the ladies to arrive.

The course was similar to those we practice on our usual slow speed skills:
Riding at walking pace, under control – Riding at walking pace, speeding up and slowing down to walking pace
Bringing your machine to a controlled stop – left foot down, bringing your machine to a controlled stop – right foot down
Perform a U-Turn in the width of the road
Pull away with lock applied
Complete a slalom course through cones
With no sign of the fog lifting, we were conscious that it was not ideal riding weather and that we may not have as many attend as we had hoped, but we did not need to be concerned, as it got closer to 10am, we had twelve ladies arrive, from local to Peterborough to Cambridge and Huntingdon.

The morning, was a great success! All the Ladies had a practice and with the help of the PECAM Observers, all made great improvements to their slow speed skills.
Bob Armstrong was on hand with the PECAM Gymkhana Bike, to demonstrate to the Ladies.
A big thank you to all the Observers, Steve Staines, Bob Butler, Martin Mooney, Owen Jervis and Kevin Hudson for giving up their Sunday Morning to help.
Thanks to the two Bob’s for their time too.
Hopefully we will have given the Ladies some insight into what PECAM is about and what we have to offer and get some to sign up! If not, at least they rode away with some skills to help them on their rides.
