Peterborough IAM (Institute of Advanced Motorcyclists) offered the Cambs and Peterborough Women Biker a Ladies only skills session.

The idea was to offer the Ladies an invaluable opportunity to practice their slow speed skills, with expert tuition in a safe environment and to dispel the myth that IAM and PECAM are only grey bearded men who ride GS bikes!

The session took place at Alconbury Airfield with PECAM Members exercises, including U-turns, slow riding, slalom and figure of 8, as well as high speed braking and manual handling and the chance to practice picking up a dropped bike, using the PECAM bike.

There was also the opportunity to have an assessed ride by an IAM Observer, without any obligation to join the IAM, the Observers were happy to take any of the Ladies out and give some feedback and guidance on their riding.

Twelve Lady Riders from the Cambs and Peterborough Women Bikers Group attended the Morning Session, with five taking advantage of having the assessed ride.

At the end of the session, all the Ladies said how much they enjoyed the morning and how much they had learned from the exercises and how much more confident they felt and asked when will the next session be!

Following the session there was good positive feedback from the Ladies and thanks to PECAM Members for the opportunity and for their time.

“Great morning, thanks for organising and for the boys and girls of PECAM for their time, I really enjoyed it” – ME

“Thank you so much to everyone involved for a great morning, have learnt a lot” – LP

“What a fantastic morning, great to brush up on rusty skills and get to know my bike bit better and meet you lovely lot, the event was great timing as everyone starts to get back on their bikes, fantastic that PECAM crew gave up their time to give us such invaluable advice, I cant stop smiling about the few great U-turns I did at the end” – SH
