In February’s social evening our Deputy Chief Observer, Bob Stewart, gave a fascinating insight into the work of the Special Escort Group (SEG), supported by a video presentation to the members of PECAM. The SEG is the specialist group of Police Officers of the Metropolitan Police Force used for escort duties for VIPs, visiting dignitaries and the Royal Family. The Royal family normally used just 3 riders, but for State Visits and other VIPs visiting, depending on status, the SEG would provide up to 12 motorcycles. The Escort provided safe and efficient progress for the escorted party through London’s busy streets.
The SEG also formed the Metropolitan Police Precision Motorcycle Team. This group of highly skilled motorcyclists demonstrated precision riding across the country for a number of years.
This was the first hybrid social with a streamed video. Presentations work brilliantly, but streamed video depends so much on the recipient’s data connection that results are varied.
