Ten PECAM riders made the most of some glorious sunshine on Sunday 23rd August, gathering at Haddon Services on the A1 for another of our regular social ride-outs.
With Carl Lewin leading and Andy Gilbert keeping everything together as Tail End Charlie, the group headed east across the Fens for a two-and-a-quarter-hour run to Krazy Horse.
The weather was certainly on our side. The Fenland road surfaces? Perhaps slightly less so. But dodging the worst of the bumps and undulations is all part of the local riding experience, and a relaxed, safe and legal pace gave everyone plenty of opportunity to enjoy the quieter roads, open countryside and sunshine.
Krazy Horse proved well worth the journey. Alongside the café is an impressive collection of custom motorcycles and a small museum packed with some wonderfully individual choppers — providing plenty to look at while the inevitable motorcycle conversations continued. The café team coped admirably with ten hungry bikers, with cooked breakfasts and sandwiches disappearing in suitably short order.
For the return journey, Carl had planned a slightly shorter route to Seasons Garden Centre at Chatteris — but shorter certainly didn’t mean duller. Some excellent twisty roads provided a suitably entertaining finale and plenty of smiles before the ride came to an end.
Great weather, interesting roads, good food and even better company. In other words, pretty much exactly what a PECAM Sunday ride should be.
