Sunday 10th August – PECAM Social Ride Out – Picks Barn Café, Lyndon

This was Mike Mooney’s inaugural ride lead and Mike had planned a route to a new destination (well new for me!) Picks Barn Café, Lyndon, the plan was for a 60mile route, taking in roads through Northamptonshire and Leicestershire.

Meeting at our usual place on the Patio at Haddon Services, sixteen bikes joined Mike for the days adventure, following the ride briefing, (in which Mike inadvertently told the group to “ride their own race”, which caused much laughter before Mike corrected his faux pas) and with Ian Webb volunteering to don the pink vest for TEC duties, the group left Haddon and headed east for the first leg of the route.

We rode through many familiar villages, including Folksworth, Southwick, Bulwick and Medbourne, continuing through more chocolate box villages and fabulous twisty roads, before arriving at Picks Barn Café, our breakfast stop destination, set in the Estate Village of Lydon.

Fortunately, Mike had reserved us a table, as the café was extremely busy, obviously a very popular café for locals, walkers and cyclists.

The Staff were very busy and the food took a while to be served, but as they had to deal with the sixteen of us turning up at once, as well as the other Customers, I think they did a fantastic job and the food was well worth the wait!

With a few of the group leaving us at Picks Barn Café, but we had Emma, join us for the second leg of the ride out, we headed out towards North Luffenham, Ketton and through the villages surrounding Rutland Water and onto our final destination of Starbucks, Brotherhood Retail Park, Peterborough.

A big thank you to Mike Moody for a fabulous route and destination, also thanks to Ian Webb for his TEC duties and keeping us all together, and as always, a big thank you to everyone for their Company.
