The Sunday 14th June PECAM ride-out to Picks Barn Café in Lyndon delivered everything we hope for from a summer ride: sunshine, fantastic roads, good company, and excellent food.

The day began at Haddon Services, where 17 riders gathered on the patio for the morning briefing. Before setting off, Mike provided a comprehensive overview of the route and a detailed explanation of the marking system and second-man drop-off procedure, ensuring everyone was clear on their roles and confident for the ride ahead.

Our planned route covered around 60 miles through some of the finest roads in Northamptonshire and Leicestershire before returning through Rutland to our destination at Picks Barn Café. With clear skies and warm sunshine throughout, conditions could hardly have been better.

Unfortunately, the day didn’t begin quite as planned for Martin, whose bike failed to start after arriving at Haddon Services. Despite efforts to get him underway, recovery was ultimately required. While disappointing for Martin, the rest of the group was able to continue safely on the planned route.

The ride itself was smooth and enjoyable, with no incidents or calamities to report. Riders were treated to a wonderful mix of flowing countryside roads, scenic views, and the camaraderie that makes PECAM ride-outs so special.

On arrival at Picks Barn Café, we received a warm welcome and were exceptionally well looked after by the staff. The café proved to be an excellent choice, serving great food and providing the perfect opportunity for riders to relax, chat, and compare notes on the morning’s ride.

Several riders continued on the optional return route through Rutland, while others took advantage of the café’s convenient location to head home directly.

The feedback from riders reflected the success of the day:

“Very enjoyable ride out, thanks Mike and Mike.”

“Thank you both, Mike for Lead and Mike for TEC – wonderful route and a great venue.”

“Great ride out Mike, fabulous roads, lovely café. Sorry we couldn’t make the second half. Thanks to Mike A for TEC duties.”

A big thank you goes to Mike M for leading the ride and to Mike A for carrying out TEC duties, helping to ensure the day ran smoothly from start to finish.

With great weather, excellent roads, a welcoming venue and 17 riders enjoying a trouble-free day in the saddle, this was another memorable PECAM ride-out and a reminder of why our club rides continue to be so popular.
