April 25th saw the first opportunity of the year for the PECAM members to get out on the roads since the slight easing of the lockdown restrictions. As is the current good practice, as legal requirement we gathered in groups of no more than six. The demand was such that in the end we had four groups ride out to separate destinations.
Group 1: Kings Head tea room
This week we offered a short ride option, for those keen to get back for Sunday lunch, pets, children and a host of other reasons. The six in this group took a figure of eight loop around the great country roads in Cambridgeshire and Northants to end up a the Kings Head tea room for bacon sandwiches and tea and coffee. We were having our sandwich by 11am.
The other three groups took in the Fenland Airport, across a circuitous route of great fen roads, Foxton Locks out near Market Harborough, and the ever popular Wymondham Windmill, near Oakham. Those three routes each clocked up just over 100 miles and saw a mixture of country roads, and in the Wymondham group some near green lanes.

Group 4: Fenland Airport
Today, six of us set off on our cross country jaunt departing from Eye services over to Thorney, Crowland and up to Holbeach. A loop around Holbeach and then stop over at Fenland Airfield for a break, refreshments and a chat. There were even some light aircraft coming and going for us to watch whilst we tucked into our snacks!
From the Airfield, we travelled to Spalding then on to Market Deeping, finishing back at Eye services for a de-brief and closing chat. The weather was reasonable, a little on the chilly side, and company was good with no issues on the ride. Richard Calladine was TEC on the way out and Gary Reynolds was TEC on the way back.
At the end of the rideout when we had our de-brief to get any planning or execution feedback. Garry said, “I am very pleased with how it all went and found leading my first ride very satisfying
.” Well done Garry, you were great and now you have your first one organised, the next will be easier.
These group rides are a staple of the PECAM social agenda and take part every second and fourth Sunday of the month throughout the year.
