The Motor Cycle News (MCN) Festival of Motorcycling is normally held in early May. However, in 2020 it was cancelled altogether and this year it has been pushed back to the first week in September. Hence we find ourselves using the second of the scheduled August 2021 social Sunday morning rides as both a social ride, for the general membership, and a route re-familiarisation session, for the members wishing to be MCN Ride Marshals.

Here at PECAM we are lucky to be able to offer motorcycle manufacturers a ride marshal service. Our fully qualified IAM Advanced Riders and experienced group ride leaders are ideally suited to the task of leading the manufacturers demo ride sessions, which are held throughout the festival weekend. Our guys (and gals) are local, and know the roads extremely well, they are also excellent motorcyclists and enthusiastic, experienced and professional.

Prior to the festival weekend we like to review the alternative routes we have crafted. These routes have been developed over the 6 years we have been offering this service to make the best use of the roads local to the show ground. This review in just in case of any issues like fresh resurfacing, planned maintenance or new road layouts and speed limits.

Each route is carefully planned to offer the demo groups the best experience of the motorcycle they are trying out. Laid back cruisers perform better in one environment and off road bikes better in another for example, so we have routes tailored for different styles of bikes.. When added together the routes offer an interesting mix of roads and even include a special route dedicated to Electric bikes.

We started a little later than normal for a Sunday ride out, and met nearer to the show ground than our usual meeting place. We rode all of the routes back to back, swapping ride leads to ensure all members had a good ride out, and then stopped for a well earned lunch break at the Stibbington services.
