Following the success of last years Ladies only Slow Speed Skills Coaching Event, Sunday 3rd May was again, coaching offered to all Lady Riders in the hope of encouraging those Ladies to attend, who would otherwise be put off in a mixed environment.

With the help of a few of our National Observers, on hand to offer coaching advice and to carry out taster rides, the event was held at our usual coaching spot of West Point in Peterborough.

With the weather looking better than we had hoped, heading out to West Point to meet the other PECAM Members, to set up the event and the cones for the slow speed exercises, ready for the ladies to arrive.

The course was similar to those we practice on our usual slow speed skills:

Riding at walking pace, under control

  • Riding at walking pace, speeding up and slowing down to walking pace
  • Bringing your machine to a controlled stop – left foot down, bringing your machine to a controlled stop – right foot down
  • Perform a U-Turn in the width of the road
  • Pull away with lock applied
  • Complete a slalom course through cones

We were really pleased with the attendance, apart from our own Ladies, we had 12 attendees, all who took on the advice and coaching on offer, four Ladies took advantage of the taster rides, which means going out with a short ride with one of our qualified National Observers, to get feedback on their riding.

A big thank you to all the Observers, Bob Butler, Martin Mooney, Tim Helstrip and Kevin Hudson for giving up their Sunday afternoon to help and to everyone else who lent a hand for the afternoon’s session.

Thanks also to Bob for his organising and supplying the refreshments.

We managed to sign up one Lady during the afternoon, with three other Ladies promising to sign up once they got home.

Hopefully we will have given the Ladies some insight into what PECAM is about and what we have to offer and get some of the others to sign up! If not, at least they rode away with some skills to help them on their rides.
