On 18th May, Webbs Motorcycles of Peterborough hosted the Cambs and Peterborough Women Bikers (CPWB) group for an exclusive evening of test rides and more.

PECAM were invited along to promote IAM Roadsmart to the Ladies attending.

CPWB is a Facebook based group with over 400 members on bikes and trikes, and aims to provide a friendly and supportive place for all ladies who ride, from ‘L’ platers to seasoned full license adventurers.

It was first started by Ruth Clark in 2014 as a way to find other women in the local area to ride with and gain confidence. The current admin team organise a monthly social meet-up throughout the year, and now the weather has finally improved, more ladies ‘ride-in’ rather than just come to socialise. During the warmer months, other events are organised including group rides which are led by a member of the admin team, and now and then a skills day, such as the skills day kindly put on by PECAM recently.

As a member of both CPWB and PECAM, I was invited to attend the event with my PECAM hat on.

I was fortunate enough to be joined by long time IAM National Observer and Masters Mentor Stephanie Evans. It was a good opportunity to chat to some of the ladies about the different aspects of PECAM as well as the process of preparing to take the IAM Advanced Rider test. Some of those who attended had also attended the PECAM skills day.

Webbs made a great selection of bikes available for test ride during the evening.

Triumph: Trident 660 – 805mm; Tiger Sport 660 – 835mm; Street R 765 – 826mm; Street RS 765 – 836mm; Speed Twin 900 – 765mm; Scrambler 900 – 790mm; Tiger 900 GT Pro – 820mm; Tiger 1200 GT Pro – 850mm; Speed Triple 1200 RS – 830mm

Yamaha: MT03 – 780mm; R7 – 835mm; Tenere 700 World Raid – 890mm; XSR900 – 810mm; MT09SP – 825mm; Tracer 9GT – 810mm; MT10 – 835mm

We were lucky with the weather, and so two test rides were run, one of about 50 mins followed by another lasting about 30 mins, led by Ruth.

While some were out on a test ride, others present were provided with a basic maintenance session in the workshop, and the opportunity to browse the clothing (with 10% discount), chat to us, and eat some sweet and savory snacks. Webbs were really excellent hosts.
