Members of PECAM Committee work very hard behind the scenes for the Club and Members and we thought it would be good to introduce you to them and give you an insight into who they are and what they do.
This Month I would like to introduce you to me! Lynn Perry, Communication and Marketing.
How my journey started with Motorcycles
I have always had a bit of a “thing” about motorbikes ever since my Dad had a bike to go to work on when I was a child, but it was not until I met Bill (some of you will know Bill as he is also a Member of PECAM), that I had the opportunity to be pillion, that I had any real experience on a motorbike, I spent eight years as his pillion and loved it.
It was not until we went to Hunstanton one Summer, when I sat watching all the Ladies getting off their own bikes that I thought, I wanted to have a go at getting my own licence.
A few weeks later, Bill paid for my CBT for my birthday, I then purchased a Honda CBF125 and the rest they say is history!
I obtained my full licence in 2014 getting my first big bike a yellow Kawasaki ER6N and I absolutely loved that bike!
Following on from a biking holiday in Wales, I changed my bike, whilst I loved the ER6N I was ready for a change and bought a Kawasaki Z800.
I found the Z800 to be a bit heavy for me, so swapped it for my current Z900, which I have had from new.

Why I decided to join PECAM
We had booked a tour of the Black Forest, Germany, at the time of booking, neither of us had any experience of riding in a group and with me having limited experience, we decided to do some advanced training and a friend was a member of PECAM and we were invited along to a social evening to find out more about PECAM and IAM Roadsmart, we signed up for a free ride assessment at a PECAM recruitment day held at Wheels in Peterborough and signed up to the course from there.
Whilst I had not passed my IAM Roadsmart test at the point of heading off to Germany, the training I had experienced by that point, made a huge difference to my confidence and ability to ride in a group and abroad.
During the tour to the Black Forest, we rode through five countries covering over 1,500 miles, it was a fantastic trip, made even more enjoyable with the training I had gained.
My riding has gone from strength to strength with the support of PECAM and its excellent training and skills improvement opportunities and with the extra assistance and encouragement from certain PECAM Observers (you know who you are!) even to the point of me riding the Hardknott Pass earlier this year!

Why did I join the Committee?
I decided that as I had received so much from the Group, with so many people giving up their spare time to help me, to join the Committee to give something back to the Group and when I was asked to Assist, the then Chairman Tim Helstrip, who had been my Observer, with the Group Blogs, I was happy to do so.
I enjoy writing and posting the blogs, it’s a great opportunity to promote the Group activities in the hope that more Members will get involved in all the Groups social and training activities, as they can see what they are missing out on.
PECAM is not just about training, we are a great bunch of people, who also enjoy a lot of social events and they are not all bike related, our Winter Social Events have been very successful, just check out the blogs on the website!
What’s next for me?
I now have more involvement with the Group, helping to arrange Ladies Ride Outs and Ladies Skills Days, all in the effort to encourage more Ladies to join PECAM/IAM Roadsmart.
I am currently undertaking National Observer Training and hope to be able to help new Associates learn the valuable skills that IAM Roadsmart promotes.
