Wednesday 14th  June was an extra to the normal PECAM calendar evening social ride outs, Mark Bearman and Bob Armstrong had organised a ride to the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre Bike Night, with the opportunity to see the Lancaster Taxi the runway.

This ride was a little different than the usual PECAM rides, some Members met at Haddon Services for 6pm with the opportunity for other Members to join the ride along the route.

Mark had set up, via Google maps a link that allowed Members along the route to track the progress of the group and with pre-arranged locations, we were able to join in the ride, without the group stopping.

As Mark was on TEC duties and with the riders ready to go, Mark slowed the traffic to allow riders to join the group.

It worked a treat, especially for the likes of Bill & Myself who wanted to join the ride, but due to work, would not have been able to make it to Haddon for 6pm and would have missed out on a great night.

The second man drop off system was used along the route to get us to East Kirkby, Spilsby in time to watch the Lancaster be fired up and taxi the runway.

What an amazing sight that was!

Restoring Avro Lancaster NX611 “Just Jane”

The Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre is currently working through a programme of restoration with Avro Lancaster NX611 with the aim of taking her to an airworthy condition.

Exhibitions at Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre

You can explore the amazing aircraft and vehicles alongside fascinating and uniquely personal exhibits linked to Bomber Command.

The Hanger is the home of Avro Lancaster “Just Jane” and the DH Mosquito HJ711

The Control Tower is one of the main features to the museum, it is the original control tower, restored, to show you what an operational tower would have been like.

There is also the RAF Escape Museum and the Memorial Chapel on site as well as The Hampden Restoration and Early Bombers and Home Front exhibitions to look around.

Unfortunately, we did not have time to look around all the exhibitions and many of us said about returning to the Heritage Centre to be able to spend time looking around everything.

The bike night ride out was a success, with 19 PECAM members joining the ride, but 19 bikes pale into insignificance when you see how many bikes were in attendance at the bike night, an amazing amount of bikes!

A big thank you to Mark and Bob A for the ride, everyone for their company and to Mark for the opportunity to try the tracking system, allowing more members to join the evening ride.
