Hi everyone, and today I write on the great rideout we had to the The Pavilion Tea Room located in Wilton, Park, Melton Mowbray and the ride back.
Plan and execute
The weather this morning was somewhat uninspiring when I departed for our meet up, but as I had planned and also executed the route yesterday to be sure I was happy with the route choices, I was determined to follow through, even if meant the roads were a little damp and the weather looking decidedly unsettled. As it turns out, this only added for a more attentive ride!
Outbound leg
We set off westwards through some familiar roads in the direction of Market Harborough and then onto Melton Mowbray. Some excellent roads and plenty of opportunities to practice our skills. By the time we reached our break point, the weather had become milder and once we had a bite to eat, a chat on the route so far and a drink we then set off for our return leg.
Return leg
Here we had a couple of hiccups; one being my sat-nav device taking me round the houses, quite literally, and then on the way out of the same housing estate we had to halt at a T junction to allow a managed cycling group to safely pass; maybe only a 5 min wait but we discussed a possible re-route option. Thankfully, after Tim spoke with one of the marshals, we knew that there was no big delay and we continued as planned. During route execution, we hit another small hiccup where three of the group didn’t spot a marked junction but Tim and I doubled back and met up at Oakham with the others where my planned route was then again executed. Well done guys for adopting the default position of when reaching a junction which had no straight over option, you pulled over and waited for the ride lead to meet with you.
Wrap up
All in all, I had a great time guys and my thanks to you for making my riding day that little bit more enjoyable!

Thank you Nigel and an absolutely cracking ride this morning. We were very lucky with the weather and although first thing it was a little damp in places, largely dry roads in great condition. Your preview ride paid off to make this morning’s route excellent. Good cafe stop the Pavilion at Melton is always good, and nice to see they have a few gazebos up if it is raining. We were also by and large lucky with the large organized cycle races. Brilliant morning!
P.S. I’m a little camera shy!
