Saturday 5th June saw the second Slow Speed Skills session of 2021. This is a now a regular First Saturday training module organised by PECAM. After the initial briefing on slow riding technique, the members were tasked with riding as slowly as possible down an airfield marked white band, about 2 feet wide, for a distance of about 50 feet. Object, find clutch bite point and control speed on the rear brake.

The Slalom

The group then moved onto a slalom course in which, towards the end of the line of cones, the cones were actually closer together.  Lots of good natured banter about how difficult it was with the cones being closer together BUT, by having a few goes each, everyone managed to do it even if one or two rear wheels did clip a cone on the way through.

The Dreaded ‘U’ Turn

Then onto a figure of 8 course, passing through a central gate, which had to be completed within a marked area.  Once again, after a few goes, everyone was managing it.

Last exercise was making a u-turn within a marked 22 foot width, from a moving start and then one or two of the more confident, from stationary, with the appropriate full lock applied before moving off.
