There were two groups venturing far and wide today, again keeping within the group of 6 rule, hopefully for the last time as the rule should be relaxed on May 17th.
One group took a long and adventurous ride out to Woodhall Spa, with the other group a more usual length ride out to Wymondham Windmill, avoiding the gravel traps and green lanes favoured by many of the adventure bike riders.
Woodhall Spa
This was a longer than normal ride out taking about 4.5 hours. It was an first half of 2 hours plus, including a short ‘comfort’ break along the way. As is often the case with a ‘Martin Jones’ inspired ride there were some challenging roads both narrow and maybe with loose surfaces.
Woodhall Spa cafe looked after the group with great refreshments and a well deserved break.
The route back took in more of the same to make a great long run out. The weather was kind, although cloudy, given how wet it was on Saturday.
Wymondham Windmill
This was a more straightforward route on great roads – good for any bikes, including sports bikes! the 1.5 hour trip out to the cafe took in the infamous Bitchfield bends, good cornering practice, and after a bacon sandwich (and cake for Lynn:-)) another 1.5 trip back via the great A427 from Corby to Oundle. We split up at Wansford on the way back so the guys who live Bourne / Spalding way had a more direct trip home.
