PECAM organises two social group rides each month throughout the year, on the second and fourth Sunday of the month. The group ride destinations are invariably nice, biker friendly, cafes and the routes usually include a wide variety of roads and fantastic local scenery.
We offer a short ride, of about 60 to 70 miles and a longer ride, often twice that length. The rides are open to full members (those who have passed the IAM RoadSmart advanced rider test) and associates with their Observers approval. The rides are safe, legal and progressive and follow the group’s ride policy.
Depending on the size of the group we use one of two group management methods. For larger groups, with more than six group riders, we use the second man drop-off system and for smaller groups we use the intelligent buddy system.
No matter which method is used, participants ride their own ride and always within their own capabilities. This is a social ride, not training and definitely not a competition. Overtaking is allowed within the group, but anyone who overtakes the ride lead will inevitably be lost out of the group, and if they do turn up at the coffee stop or and the end of the group ride then they are on the hook for a coffees all round for the rest of the group riders!
The group riding meeting place is Haddon Services, at the A1/A605 junction. The summer meeting time (April to October) is 9:30 am and the winter meeting time is 10am.
