Sunday 10th was Bob Armstrong’s loop around the Cambridgeshire and Nottinghamshire Countryside with a destination stop at The Boxwood Café, Oundle.
On a bright, crisp November morning, twelve PECAM members met at our usual meeting point of Haddon Services, where Bob A delivered a ride briefing, with a reminder from Bob S on safe marking of junctions with Me donning the pink vest and taking on the TEC duties.
As there was twelve of us, the second man drop off system was in place for our ride out and following the briefing, we headed out for the days adventure.
The route Bob had planned took in some lovely wibbly wobbly roads, including some that we had not ridden before on a Sunday ride out, we had planned a stop to mark Remembrance Sunday but due to getting stuck at Holme Crossing, we had to improvise.
We pulled over into the layby, with the Remembrance Service on Bob A’s phone, we honoured the contribution and loss of British and Commonwealth servicemen and servicewomen in the World Wars and all worldwide conflicts since, with a two minutes silence.
The route had a slight detour due to a road being closed for a Remembrance Sunday parade, which meant the group had to negotiate a Uturn, and this was very successfully carried out by all attendees! Slow speed skills coaching paid off!
On reaching the Boxwood Café, Bob A had to leave us due to a family commitment, the rest of us enjoying the food on offer, with very prompt service from the Café staff, despite being busy.
As there was no planned second leg today, Craig McLean very kindly offered a route to Café 13 at Wansford, so a few of us took him up on the offer and headed out to Wansford, with one or two dropping off along the way to make their own way home.
Reaching Café 13, there was just four of us left to enjoy the comfort of warmth and coffee.
A most enjoyable day, the road conditions were excellent, despite the temperature and time of year, thank you to everyone for their company, great to have a bit of banter!
Thank you to Bob A for the route and destination choice, to Craig for the second half of the day and to Jane for the coffee at Café 13.
