Sunday 8th September, Social Ride Out, arranged and led by Bob Armstrong.

Despite varying degrees of precipitation around our region this morning, a Roger, a Steve, an Andy and two Bobs decided to test the waterproof qualities of their clothing.

Meeting at the usual location at Haddon Services, there was sporadic light rain with large patches of blue sky.

Bob A, the ride lead, decided to postpone departure for 30 minutes and we set off at 10am, rainless with blue sky.

It couldn’t have been that bad as we saw PECAM National Observers,Mark Bearman and Mike Arkley at Haddon with their Associates. Bob and I both had a wry smile when we noted Mark’s Associate was from the Dark Side, riding a GS!

Bob led us by way of wibbly wobbly roads, from Haddon to Alconbury, Kimbolton, (the only location on our outward route where the heavens opened for about 15 minutes), Great Staughton, Honeydon, Great Barford, Willington, to arrive, in glorious sunshine, at The Runway Café, Shuttleworth,Old Warden.

The place was buzzing with a Triumph Owners Club meeting.

Although we got there after 11.30am when they stopped serving breakfast, a cup of tea and a hunk of cake went down very well.

We returned by way of similar wibbly wobbly roads in the course of which Bob A took one for the team!

In the middle of nowhere he suddenly stopped to eject some sort of flying object from his crash helmet.  Aforementioned flying object, having taken umbrage at being scooped up, stung Bob above his left eye, on the way out of the crash helmet.

By the time we reached our final destination, the Starbucks at Orton, Bob’s eye was swollen and starting to close.

Moral of tale – don’t ride out in the country with your visor open!

Thanks for some excellent roads and great company.

(Thanks Bob S for the blog, great write up!)
